Tribute

Claretha Jones Booker of San Antonio, Texas went to be with the Lord, February 4, 2024, after a brief illness, at the age of 96. Claretha was the youngest of eight children born to Rev. Henry Alexander Jones and Angie Ella Perry Jones on April 4, 1927, in Mexia, Texas. At the age of fifteen, she graduated from Anderson High School in Austin, Texas, and moved to Corpus Christi in 1944. She met Clabion Booker at St. Paul Methodist Church. They later married and had two children, Charles Larry and Barbara Faye. Claretha was a great cook and was employed at the Regale Confectionary, a local diner on the Northside of Corpus Christi. Claretha graduated from Del Mar College School of Nursing, where she received her LVN license. She was employed at Driscoll Children's Hospital, Southside Community Hospital, NAS Hospital Corpus Christi, VA Hospital, in Houston, Texas, the Corpus Christi State School in Corpus Christi, Texas and Mexia, Texas. She received her certification for the aged, and was later employed at Lynnhaven Nursing Home. After retirement, she volunteered for the Foster Grandparents Program where she assisted teachers and students at Garcia Elementary. She was a member of the Deb Mothers Club. She was a devoted member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Usher Board, Senior Sunday School Class, the Corpus Christi Emmaus Community, and was an Honorary Member of Council at St. Paul. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, and siblings Hattie Mae Nesby, Eddie Jones, Sr., Lilia Conner, Rev. Vernon Jones, Ada Bessie Stephens, Robert E. Jones, and Henry Ola Fuller.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Barbara Faye Booker, four grandchildren: Charnelle Yvette Barnes, Keith O'Neal Nunn, Cherilyn Shene Ocasio, and Stacey Reynard Nunn, eleven great-grandchildren Zachary, Anthony, Jazzilyn, Darion, Terrance, Brandon, Lauren, Ashley, Christian, Jaydon, and Leighton. Along with twelve great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 15, 2024, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel, 4357 Ocean Dr., Corpus Christi, Texas. The funeral service will be held Friday, February 16, 2024, 11:00 am at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1202 Sam Rankin, Corpus Christi, Texas. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Corpus Christi, Texas.

The family welcomes donations to St. Paul UMC, P.O. Box 9153, Corpus Christi, Texas 78469-9153, as an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers. Special thanks to the staff at Remarkable Hospice, San Antonio, Texas.
